Hello there! Nice to meet you.

Sylvia was born in Queens, NY to South Korean immigrants. She spent her childhood and youth in Flushing, a predominantly Asian neighborhood, and was greatly influenced by the diversity of foods, peoples, and life of her surroundings. Approaching adulthood, Sylvia pursued a degree in Computer Science and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2013. After graduation, she moved to Seattle, WA to live her life as a software engineer. In Washington, she fell in love with the trees, the mountains, and the great bodies of water that encompassed her. So different from her childhood, which was spent amongst concrete, asphalt, and skyscrapers, her adult life on the Pacific Northwest gave her time to slow down and return to her passion of drawing and painting. At first glance, her life as a software engineer may seem vastly different to the world of art. However, engineering and art are closely related in their core premise — in their desire to create something new.

Currently, Sylvia continues her successful career as a software engineer while simultaneously honing her skills as a writer and illustrator. She hopes to become an author-illustrator that will make children laugh at the preposterous, smile with warmth, and cry with understanding. She will be looking for literary agent in late 2022.

P.S. Isn’t it funny how we talk about ourselves in the third person in these bios?
